Youth Connections
The Youth Connections Program, proudly delivered by the Mountain Métis Community Association, provides comprehensive support to Métis and local youth in Grande Cache, ages 7–17. For over 15 years, this program has played a vital role in fostering healthy lifestyles, cultural identity, and strong community connections.
Program Highlights:
Academic Support
∙ In-school, online, and after-school tutoring for youth in need of additional academic guidance and encouragement.Nutrition Program
∙ Weekly distribution of nutritious food to support families and promote healthy living.Youth Engagement & Leadership
∙ Community involvement activities, leadership training programs, and youth conferences designed to empower and inspire.Post-Secondary Planning & Support
∙ Ongoing guidance for post-secondary applications, funding opportunities, employment training, recreational programs, and bursary applications.
Annual graduation awards and a celebratory dinner are provided to graduating Métis youth by the Mountain Métis Community Association.Career & Employment Development
∙ Job search and readiness training, resume building, interview preparation, First Aid certification, and Learner’s License prep workshops.Cultural Awareness & Education
∙ Opportunities to engage in traditional Cree language classes, jigging, fiddling, Indigenous beading, herb gathering, and medicine teachings.
Youth also learn to make traditional muskeg tea and Indian Ice Cream as part of our land-based cultural activities.Recreational & Extra-Curricular Activities
∙ A wide range of activities including swimming, baseball, kickboxing, skating, golfing, fishing, and arts and crafts. In 2021, we introduced an exciting
