Long Road Home
Long Road Home was a commemorative return trip to Jasper to mark 100 years since the first families were forced out of their beloved homeland in 1909 and 1910. Mountain Métis families and youth who are descended from the original families returned to their homeland in August 2009. They travelled on the old packtrails of their ancestors by horseback and packoutfit-on a 14-day trip through the Canadian Rocky Mountains from Grande Cache to Jasper. There were 37 riders and 75 horses and the group travelled approximately 180 km through the Rocky Mountain trails.
Long Road Home is a 45:13 minute HD documentary that focuses on the Jasper story and the 14-day return trip of the descendants of the six evicted families. The forty-five minute production features a Centennial Commemorative Journey in 2009-the Long Road Home after 100 years. Stories are shared through the voices of the descendants as they reveal their fight to preserve traditions, culture and a way of life, as Mountain Métis. Long Road Home was an Official Selection for the 2011 Dreamspeakers Film Festival.
